To empower employees with relevant knowledge and skills, the Office of Institutional Diversity is offering a 2-hour workshop: Free Expression at OSU.

Through a variety of interactive exercises, participants will (1) deepen their knowledge of the laws and policies that guide speech activity at Oregon State University, (2) reflect on how they may balance their professional and personal values as they guide student and employee speech activity and (3) practice exploring and negotiating challenging scenarios with their peers.

This presentation is ideal for members at any stage of their careers who began their PERS covered career after August 28, 2003. Topics include membership and vesting requirements, information regarding Online Member Services and estimates, retirement eligibility, detailed information about the Individual Account Program (IAP), and member resources. This is an in-person event.

This presentation is ideal for Tier One/Tier Two members who are within three years of PERS retirement. Topics include a step-by-step review of a PERS estimate of retirement benefits, retirement options, and retirement timelines; guidelines on completing the retirement application; an explanation of working after retirement rules; detailed information regarding the Individual Account Program (IAP); and a list of available resources. This is an in-person event.
 

When a difficult event or crisis happens, it sends shockwaves. Unpredictable critical events are
challenging for the people directly impacted, but witnessing the consequences and impact on the
news or social media can also be triggering. Even those who are not directly affected can
experience feelings of uncertainty.

Join this discussion group to talk with others about how to manage difficult emotional responses
and cope in healthy ways when experiencing a crisis on an individual or cultural level.

At this 1.5 hour meeting the OSU HR Support Services team gather and process new hire paperwork, take ID’s, cover benefits and opportunities associated with employment, and provide assistance with getting logged in and comfortable with OSU apps, systems, and webpages. Caregiving is a labor of love. It offers opportunities to tap into new levels of care and live in closer alignment with our values. Caring for an aging loved one can also allow us to care for those who have cared for us. While this can be a worthwhile and rewarding experience, caring for an aging loved one can also come with a unique set of challenges. These roles may come with learning curves, time demands, and mental drain that can bring up complicated emotions. 

Life as a Jewish American is unique, rewarding, and multilayered. For many, it overlaps with both ethnic and religious identities and comes with a sobering history of persecution and prejudice. This antisemitism negatively impacts mental health and feelings of safety and belonging.  

Join this Gathering to talk with other Jewish Americans about ways to honor your identity and promote safety and belonging in the workplace. Attendees will also learn some self-care strategies for managing prejudice along the way.  

Language shapes culture. It can reflect our present and change our future. Simply put—the words we choose can change our lives. It is important to be intentional and specific with how we refer to and define ourselves, especially when it comes to social identities like disability status. This can sound simple, but it becomes quite complex when we consider history, politics, individual perceptions, and more.
